W.B.O'Shaughnessy:The pioneer of Electrical Telegraph in Asia
In1850~53 first experimental Electrical Telegraph line was laid from calcutta to Diamond Harbour, crossed the river Hooghly at kukrahati, crossed river Haldi and went to Khejuri

This was the first telegraph line in Asia. Though Morse is known as the inventor of Electrical Telegraph,WB O'Shaughnessy did the successful experiment in colonial India .
He was a doctor by profession and took a great role in the establishment of Calcutta Medical College.
He did lot of experiments over the under water telegraph line in river Haldi.
He was born in 1809 in Ireland and died in 1889.
