Hijli Tidal canal:1871~72

Yes, it's still existing! The 138 years old lock gate of Govt.Dockyard at Geokhali is still living with its glorious history. On 22nd August,2010 when we decided to go there to take photograph, did not expect to see the mark: GOVT DOCKYARD, CALCUTTA 1872. The steel is still strong to fight the corrosion, the rivets are still robust to take the load. But the people are forgetting, forgetting the route---only Tagore can help

them.He used to go through this water canal for his journey to Orissa. This is our heritage. We must save it.

"Kukra hati" is it market for Hen/cock ?

Once the principal town town of Doro pargana had a big market at Kukrahati. Even today the market exists in a different form. It's near the river, near the village and often sailors landed here for purchasing of hens/cocks & vegetables. Heard from the elder people that in early 1900 s, people used to go to the market with their bulls burdened with rices & returned home with vegetables, salts ,chicken etc.
